For Amy's birthday this year, Paul gave her the gift of planning a trip to her favorite place in the Redwood forest, made even better by inviting some friends join us. The Northern California redwood forest is Amy's happy place, and this trip was especially magical because it was the first time all the children have self-powered through many hikes with minimal whining. Highlights:
It's hard to capture the astonishing enormity of these trees, but try to find the Bankhead children at the base of those redwoods. |
Sometimes the trails led us over fallen trees. |
One thing about redwoods is that they only grow within 40 miles of the ocean, so the beach is always part of a redwood trip. |
Bringing along a tribe of kids makes the hiking go down more smoothly. |
We found an Amos in his natural habitat. |
Exposed roots of fallen trees create cool caves to explore. |
Nothing better than walls of ferns to celebrate a birthday. |
