Not Going to the Snow
During the winter, Bay Area natives often use the phrase "going to the snow." As far as we can tell, this refers only to skiing in Tahoe, so our recent trip to Grand Targhee in Wyoming does not count as going to the snow. Neither does our stay in Utah. Still, we managed to find plenty of white stuff in both places, and both James and Sadie had successful runs down mountains on both skis and sleds. Quote from James: "Dad keeps telling me to make big S turns, but I just want to point my skis down the hill and go fast."

As a California native, I grew up believing that snow was a place, not a season. It took going to Yosemite in the winter for the first time when I was 18 to become aware of this. I looked around, saw snow, and thought, "I'm in Tahoe."
