Sleeping Beauty, Literally

Sometimes spending an entire day insisting that everyone call her Aurora makes a girl sleepy, even if she hasn't seen the movie.

Farmer's Work Ethic

Every chance they get, Amy and Paul attempt to teach their children how to work by assigning them farm chores. As part of this program, Sadie recently had charge of several baby chicks. Unlike her brother, she was not skittish around the animals and nearly mauled several small fowl. But she succeeded in her task of keeping them in their pen, and no complaints have been filed by the chickens.

Sadie's Second Year

It's been an eventful year for our little girl. Happy birthday, Sadie!

The Daily Volcano

James often requests bedtime stories "about when you were a little girl, Mom." One night Amy told him about the volcanoes she and her siblings often made in the backyard sandbox. Of course the next day James requested a live demonstration, and most every day since then we've built our own volcano in our backyard. The colors change, but the novelty never wears off. Also, Amy's discovered a reason to buy the Costco-size baking soda.

Birthday Season

While in Utah, the children successfully celebrated their birthdays, thanks to a large turnout of both Glausers and Bankheads. Sadie is now 1 and James 3. They both made such short work of Grandma's magic cupcakes that the photos show only the aftermath.

Happy Valentine's Day

Pageant Debut

James was less than thrilled about his assignment of wise man in our neighborhood Christmas pageant. He ripped his costume off three times, eventually giving in to a bribe of an extra shot of milk in his sippy cup. Sadie, on the other hand, shined in her role as a sheep.

Baseball Initiation

Sadie attended her first Major League Baseball game courtesy of the Stanford GSB. Unlike her father, she came prepared for the chilly San Francisco evenings with several warm layers. When Paul got cold, she was generous enough to share her cozy pink blanket with him. He kept wrapped up in it until he realized how silly it looked, at which point he stuffed the pink blanket under his t-shirt for warmth. Eventually a woman sitting near us offered her extra coat to Paul, who gratefully accepted. Later in the game, Sadie proved to be good luck when her crying made us relocate to a less-crowded section. That section turned out to be the section that won gift certificates during a between-inning game, and although our tickets were somewhere else, we got the prize. Her good luck even extended to the Giants, who went on to win the game.

Officially Sadie

It's official: Sadie is now a person of record. The whole Glauser clan was in town for her christening, and even the bougainvilla dressed up for the occasion.

(Note for vintage fabric fans: Sadie's dress survived the 28 years since Amy wore it and with the help of a little Oxyclean looked good as new.)

Asian Flavor

The other day Amy was loading the children in the Nimbus 2000 just as our next door neighbor was getting home. Like the nice neighbor she is, she came over to congratulate the family on our new baby and to check Sadie out. Amy adjusted the carseat so Neighbor Lady could get a better view. After a good hard look at Sadie, Neighbor Lady said matter-of-factly, "She looks Korean, doesn't she?"

Huh.

Big Brotherly Kindness

In a particularly generous moment, James decided to share his favorite toys with Sadie. He is sensitive enough to know that, despite her disinterested demeanor, deep down she loves Lightening McQueen and Mater as much as he does.

As per request

Bankhead Adventures has had several requests for more pictures of our newest member. Unfortunately, due to a variety of factors, every picture we have taken since Sadie's arrival has been out-of-focus. So we are publishing them small, in hopes that no one will notice.
